The Museum

Research

The museum is an important resource for researchers with an interest in the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry and the Light Infantry. We have a large library and archive and research at the museum is conducted by staff and knowledgeable volunteers with a deep understanding of the Regiment’s history.

Research fees

-The first 30 (thirty) minutes are free

-£30 (thirty pounds) for the next 2 (two) hours (or part of it)

-£10 (ten pounds) for each additional hour (or part of it)

For those making enquiries for commercial purposes or financial gain – such as authors or media researchers – special rates will apply. To avoid misunderstandings, please declare the intended usage at the start.

If you need copies of materials from the museum for personal research, these can be provided within copyright law. A fee, including a handling charge, will be applied based on the specific request and reproduction costs incurred. Special rates will apply if the material is intended for commercial use or financial gain. Again, please declare your intended usage at the start to avoid misunderstandings.

How to initiate a research enquiry

The easiest way to initiate a research enquiry is to email research@bodminkeep.org.uk

You may also telephone for advice or visit the museum but research will not be initiated without a supporting email providing as much of the following information as possible:

1. Your name and address, telephone number and preferred method of contact.

2. Tell us if you are a relation of a member of the regiment and/or have any other regimental connections.

3. Provide as much background information about your enquiry as possible. In particular, be sure to tell us what you already know. Try to be specific about regimental and battalion titles and numbers, the names of relevant people and places and dates. The more information you provide the better. The less information you provide, the longer it will take to provide you with an answer, and the more it will cost.

4. Be explicit about the question(s) you would like answered.

After the first free 30 (thirty) minutes, research will not be initiated until you have confirmed you wish to continue. At this point, you will be liable for a £30 (thirty) fee.

Payment

Payment can be made via BACS to the following account:

Next steps

Enquiries will be addressed as soon as possible after payment has been received. Depending on how many enquiries the research team is handling, this may take up to six months. We will provide an estimated response time after the intitial free 30 minutes research has been completed and and your enquiry has been assessed.

Reproduction Costs

If your enquiry involves significant additional costs such as photocopying, colour printing or photographic reproduction and these costs exceed £10 (ten pounds), we will seek your approval first.
