This Cornish jacket was worn by a Trooper in the Yeomanry Cavalry around 1800. The elaborate braiding on the front was borrowed from the Hussar regiments of Hungary, who had a stylish reputation. These uniforms inspired pelisses for women from 1750s-1850s, a long fitted coat, sometimes with fur, braiding or frog (button and loop) fastenings, that copied the military style. Hussar jackets also later inspired the wardrobes of musicians such as the Beatles, fashion designers like Alexander McQueen and anti war activists in the 1960s.
