October Half Term activities

We have a full programme of Second World War themed family activities for all ages this October half term.  

Explore how those on the Home Front made the most of what they had with Make Do and Mend. Learn how to make a lavender bag from fabric scraps and take away materials to make your own bag at home! There will also be a chance to find out about some wartime children’s games and pastimes.

Learn about some of the weapons used by the British Army and the Home Guard in the Second World War including a shotgun and Bren Gun.  Hear how the army and those serving at home were equipped.

Activities run from 10am – 4.30pm and are included in the admission price. The museum is great value at £7 per adult, £3 per child, under 5 years are free, and it’s dog friendly too!

Make Do and Mend

26, 27, 28, 29 & 30 October, 10am – 4:30pm

New clothes were rationed from June 1941 until 1949. Make Do and Mend was part of the government’s campaign urging people to repair, reuse and reimagine their existing clothes during the Second World War. Explore how those on the Home Front made the most of Make Do and Mend in this short family friendly demonstration!

Lavender Bag Demonstration

26, 27, 28, 29 & 30 October, 10am – 4:30pm

Learn how to make a lavender bag from fabric scraps in this demonstration inspired by Make Do and Mend!  Collect materials to take away and make your own bag at home!

Wartime Children’s Games and Pastimes at Bodmin Keep

26 & 27 October, 10am – 4:30pm

Discover some children’s games and pastimes played during the Second World War and see how they differ from today with our friendly team.

Weapons of the Second World War

28 October, 10am – 4:30pm

Learn about some of the weapons used by the British Army and the Home Guard in the Second World War. From a shotgun to a Bren Gun, hear how the army and those serving at home were equipped.
